TL;DR
Silicon Validation Firmware Engineer (AI): Developing low-level C/C++ firmware, test content, and automation to validate AI/ML accelerator ASICs from pre-silicon emulation and FPGA prototyping through post-silicon bring-up and production ramp, with an accent on bare-metal firmware, silicon debug, and hardware-software integration. Focus on debugging failures across firmware, RTL, electrical, protocol, and system levels, building HALs and device drivers, and scaling functional, performance, and stress validation.

Location: San Jose, on-site. The role is part of a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row). Relocation support is available for candidates moving to San Jose.

Company

hirify.global builds AI inference hardware by co-designing chips, racks, software, and manufacturing systems for high throughput and low latency.

What you will do

  • Develop and own low-level C/C++ validation firmware for emulation, FPGA prototypes, and physical silicon.
  • Drive first-silicon bring-up, including boot, initialization, feature enablement, and ASIC debugging.
  • Debug and root-cause issues across firmware, RTL, electrical, protocol, and system layers.
  • Build HALs and low-level device drivers for compute units, memory subsystems, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Develop validation automation, result capture, regression frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Create firmware-driven test plans and coverage metrics, and perform functional, performance, stress, and corner-case testing.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in C/C++ for firmware and bare-metal development, plus Python for automation and scripting.
  • Understanding of SoC and computer architecture, including CPU cores, memory subsystems, caches, and interconnects.
  • Experience with bootloaders, HALs, device drivers, register and interrupt programming, and bare-metal or RTOS environments.
  • Knowledge of Linux development and strong analytical and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to work on-site in San Jose.

Nice to have

  • 2+ years of firmware or embedded software development for ASICs or SoCs.
  • Silicon bring-up, JTAG, Lauterbach or GDB, UART consoles, and lab instrumentation experience.
  • Experience with pre-silicon and post-silicon validation, high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR/LPDDR/HBM, SerDes, or chiplet interconnects.
  • RTOS or RISC-V firmware development, platform firmware, RTL simulation, and Verilog/SystemVerilog debugging.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage.
  • $500 monthly credit for waiving medical benefits.
  • $2,000 monthly housing subsidy for employees living within walking distance of the office.
  • Relocation support for moves to San Jose, wellness benefits, and daily lunch and dinner in the office.
  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification.
  • Engineering and research work across disciplines in a fully in-person environment.
