Auditor Coding Specialist Remote (Medical Coding)

Location: 100% remote within the United States; locations listed are Des Moines, Iowa 50314 and Berwyn, Illinois 60402.

What you will do

• Code and abstract patient records for professional billing.
• Review medical records retrospectively and concurrently to code and sequence diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement.
• Answer coding requests and questions from billers and serve as a resource for difficult coding cases.
• Assist with insurance denials, corrections, and re-filing.
• Recommend process improvements related to registration and charge posting.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, insurance, and hospital requirements.

Requirements

• Coding certification is required.
• At least two years of current surgical coding experience is required.
• At least two years of current experience with ICD-9, CPT coding, and health insurance provider rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• High school diploma or GED; one to two years of post-high-school education is preferred.
• Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and make appropriate decisions within hospital and departmental guidelines.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of physician evaluation and management coding.
• Completion of mandatory reporter abuse training within three months of hire.
