Inpatient Medical Coding Auditor

Location: Remote nationwide within the United States; occasional travel to hirify.global offices for training or meetings may be required. Business hours are scheduled Monday–Friday, 8 hours per day, between 6AM and 6PM.

Salary: $71,100–$97,800 per year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus incentive.

What you will do

• Review inpatient hospital claims and medical records for accurate coding, reimbursement, and diagnosis-related group assignments.
• Extract clinical information and assign procedural terminology and medical codes, including ICD-10-CM and CPT.
• Conduct MS-DRG coding audits and analyze claims to support accurate provider contract payments.
• Handle provider disputes and respond to internal requests for medical information.
• Enter and manipulate data in databases while following established guidelines and procedures.
• Contribute to cost reduction and payment accuracy in payer systems.

Requirements

• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification held for at least 4 years.
• Experience with MS-DRG coding and auditing.
• Experience reading and interpreting claims and performing inpatient coding reviews or audits in health insurance or hospital settings.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, communication skills, confidentiality, independent judgment, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Must work from a dedicated, interruption-free space to protect member PHI and HIPAA information.

Nice to have

• Experience with APR-DRG coding and auditing.
• Experience in financial recovery.
• Experience in a fast-paced, metrics-driven operational environment.
