Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (Molecular Diagnostics)

Location: On-site at Menlo Park and Union City, California; regular entry into laboratory areas is required. Occasional travel to off-site facilities or regulatory meetings may be necessary.

Salary: $117,903–$128,622 base pay per year; total compensation package of $166,484 per year.

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs across laboratory and office operations.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, CAP, CLIA, NYSDOH, EPA, and California hazardous waste requirements.
• Conduct quarterly inspections, spot checks, corrective-action tracking, and leadership reporting.
• Manage chemical, biological, infectious, sharps, and mixed hazardous waste programs, including manifests, vendors, SDS records, and CERS/HMBP filings.
• Lead incident and near-miss response, root cause analysis, OSHA reporting, workers’ compensation coordination, and CAPA implementation.
• Deliver safety training and develop ergonomics, emergency preparedness, and proactive safety-culture programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of EHS experience, preferably in clinical laboratory, biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environments.
• Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, Cal/OSHA Title 8, and California hazardous waste regulations.
• Experience with safety inspections, hazardous and biological waste, incident investigations, OSHA Forms 300/300A, and corrective actions.
• Experience with electronic QMS, document control, CAPA management, CERS, HMBP filings, and regulatory reporting.
• Certification such as CSP, ASP, CIH, or CHMM; RCRA/DOT/IATA hazardous materials shipping training is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAP accreditation standards, CLIA safety requirements, and NYSDOH CLEP requirements.
