Associate Director, Commercial Data Science (AI)

Location: Thousand Oaks, California, United States; flexible commuter role with on-site work required at least 2 days per week

Salary: $194,636.40–$263,331.60 USD annually

What you will do

• Define and execute the Commercial AI and Advanced Analytics strategy across commercial business units.
• Identify and prioritize high-value AI and data science opportunities based on business impact, strategic alignment, readiness, and return on investment.
• Lead portfolios of AI, machine learning, Generative AI, and advanced analytics initiatives from strategy through deployment and adoption.
• Provide technical oversight for predictive modeling, customer targeting, next-best-action, causal inference, optimization, and production-grade AI products.
• Partner with commercial, marketing, medical, digital, technology, data engineering, and external vendor stakeholders.
• Lead, coach, and develop data scientists while establishing technical standards, governance, and responsible AI practices.

Requirements

• Must work on-site in Thousand Oaks, California, at least 2 days per week.
• Doctorate plus 3 years, master’s degree plus 7 years, bachelor’s degree plus 9 years, associate’s degree plus 12 years, or high school diploma/GED plus 14 years of experience in a quantitative field.
• At least 3 years of people management or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or resource allocation.
• Deep knowledge of AI, machine learning, Generative AI, optimization, causal inference, and modern data science methodologies.
• Experience with cloud-based AI platforms such as Databricks, AWS, Azure, or similar technologies, plus MLOps, model governance, and production deployment.
• Hands-on programming experience with Python, R, Scala, Java, or similar languages, with the ability to guide technical solution design.

Nice to have

• Bio/pharmaceutical commercial experience.
• Experience with commercial strategy, omnichannel engagement, customer targeting, market access, patient analytics, or field effectiveness.
• Experience working with claims, specialty pharmacy, EMR, and commercial healthcare datasets.
• Five or more years leading cross-functional AI, analytics, or data science initiatives with measurable business outcomes.
