Director Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota; employees work in the office at least four days per week and may work from home one day per week.

Base salary: $150,000–$206,300 per year, plus potential variable compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead client analytics strategy and provide analytical thought leadership to business leaders and analysts.
• Translate advanced modeling, segmentation, predictive analytics, and client intelligence into actionable business recommendations.
• Set technical direction for scalable solutions using machine learning, optimization, simulation, experimentation, and personalization.
• Build, lead, and scale a high-performing data science team through coaching, hiring, performance management, and goal setting.
• Oversee data extraction, feature engineering, data quality controls, validation, delivery, and performance monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise and industry data, model, and AI governance standards.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• 7–10 years of experience in analytics or data science.
• Strong knowledge of advanced statistics, machine learning, and optimization techniques.
• Experience with statistical programming, including Python and SQL, and data visualization in data-rich environments.
• Experience with MLOps, CI/CD for models, and production monitoring.
• Valid United States work authorization without current or future visa sponsorship requirements is required.

Nice to have

• Experience building solutions with LLMs, Agentic AI, RAG, and traditional AI techniques.
• People leadership experience.
• Experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
• Knowledge of advisor, client, and industry domains or Ameriprise field structure.
