TL;DR
Software Engineering Intern (Command & Control) (C++/TypeScript): Building control, communications, simulation, and cockpit software for the Quarterhorse supersonic unmanned aircraft with an accent on human-machine interaction, networking, and remotely piloted and autonomous flight modes. Focus on designing flight-crew interfaces, integrating ground and vehicle communications, and developing software through planning, implementation, testing, and user evaluation.

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, United States; on-site

hirify.global is a venture-backed defense aviation company developing high-speed aircraft through rapid iterative prototyping.

What you will do

  • Develop human-machine interaction software for flight crews to control the Quarterhorse aircraft and run simulations.
  • Build communications software using RF, Satcom, and networking technologies for ground and vehicle systems.
  • Design and implement interfaces for remotely piloted HOTAS control and point-and-click autonomous flight management.
  • Collaborate with flight crews to assess cockpit software and hardware usability.
  • Work with engineers to display and control aircraft hardware systems.
  • Participate in planning, design, implementation, code review, testing, documentation, and user evaluation.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate rising senior or as a Master's or Ph.D. student.
  • Studying Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • C/C++ experience and web application experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Electron, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of computer networking, aviation or simulation, and engineering first principles.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above and enthusiasm for aviation.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace experience or interest through aviation, rocketry clubs, pilot licensing, or flight simulation.
  • Experience with 2D or 3D games or simulations, especially Unreal, Unity, or Cesium.
  • Knowledge of TCP/UDP, IP routing, and user interface or human-computer interaction coursework.

Culture & Benefits

  • Spring internship: approximately 16 weeks from January through April.
  • Summer internship: approximately 12 weeks from May through August.
  • Interns receive 5 days of sick leave and unpaid time off.
