Substation Automation Engineer 2

Location: Pomona, California, US; hybrid work with required residence in California and up to 40% travel throughout the SCE service territory.

Salary: $101,900–$152,800 per year

What you will do

• Inspect and evaluate electrical equipment and systems, troubleshoot problems, and identify improvement opportunities.
• Assess equipment failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions and mitigation plans.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, correspondence, documentation, design plans, and engineering analyses.
• Perform power system modeling, facility and electrical system design, equipment sizing, and one-line diagram development.
• Support preventive maintenance, infrastructure lifecycle validation, technology strategy, standards implementation, and project delivery.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and cybersecurity organizations while protecting sensitive company and customer information.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• At least two years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Experience with substation automation systems, including HMI, PAC, PLC, RTU, SCADA, IEDs, and automation infrastructure.
• Knowledge of substation communication protocols and standards, including IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and Modbus Plus.
• Must work and reside in California, report to an SCE facility on designated days, travel and perform field work as required, and pass the required NERC/CIP personnel risk assessment or background investigation.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and preferably a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• California Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one.
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, microprocessor-based protective relays, SEL and GE equipment, and electric utility operations.
• Experience supporting engineering, commissioning, maintenance, or operations in transmission and distribution substations.
