TL;DR
System Test Engineer - Government (Satellite Communications): Developing and validating government modem test systems for satellite products with an accent on functional, performance, robustness, and over-the-air terminal testing. Focus on building custom test hardware and automation, debugging Linux-based products and network configurations, and supporting system test campaigns through design verification and operations.

Location: Hybrid work from the Carlsbad, California or Germantown, Maryland office, with in-office attendance 3 days per week. US citizenship required.

Salary: $120,500–$190,000 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $149,500–$224,500 annually.

What you will do

  • Develop test plans, procedures, requirements, and test cases for government modem and satellite product system development.
  • Build and deploy custom test hardware and automation using company and industry standards.
  • Shepherd test systems from hardware and software integration through design verification and operational deployment.
  • Run manual and automated tests against software releases, debug test setups, and validate software quality.
  • Support functional, performance, robustness, and over-the-air terminal testing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with system engineering, software development, project engineering, and test teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience developing test requirements, plans, cases, methodologies, and manufacturing test documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and boundary scan.
  • Knowledge of networking, the OSI model, and Layer 2/Layer 3 technologies including MAC, TCP/IP, and UDP.
  • Experience debugging and fixing Linux-based products.
  • US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance are required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and work from the office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Programming or scripting experience with Python, C, C++, Java, or another language.
  • Experience with requirements traceability tools such as DOORS or JAMA.
  • Experience with wireless, satellite communications, SATCOM, or radio frequency systems.
