Field Test Engineer (Defense)

Location: Hybrid role based in Arlington, Virginia, United States, with travel to test sites and Navy platforms up to 50%.

Salary: $74,000–$150,000 per year, with ranges of $74,000–$116,000 or $90,000–$150,000 depending on experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

• Provide operational and maintenance support for deployed software and hardware infrastructure used in DoD and Navy testing and experimentation.
• Deploy, install, configure, train users on, and support new software and hardware infrastructure across test sites and Navy platforms.
• Coordinate installation checkouts, operational testing, and mission execution with senior warfighters and government sponsors.
• Review software designs, create test plans and procedures, and troubleshoot discrepancies during test events.
• Communicate with customers and users to understand operational needs and resolve cross-functional technical challenges.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 1–3 years of related experience.
• Active U.S. Security Clearance required.
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Linux systems through command-line tools and supporting software integration and testing in virtualized Linux environments.
• Experience deploying and managing VMware environments, including ESXi, vCenter, and virtual machine administration.
• Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining applications in mission-critical environments, with the ability to troubleshoot systems, networks, and processes.

Nice to have

• Experience with Navy surface warfare systems, Aegis Weapon System, CEC, Link16, NAVSEA tactical applications, or other DoD systems.
• Experience testing complex distributed software systems or large DoD laboratory environments.
• Experience running Python, Java, C++, or other scripts and applying software integration and test methodologies.
