Senior Software Engineer, Finance (Clojure) (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, United States

Annual base salary: $200,000–$275,000, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Build and operate systems supporting PnL calculation, general ledger classification, financial reporting, regulatory capital reporting, reconciliation, and cost basis infrastructure.
• Deliver regulatory, ERP, and financial reporting initiatives.
• Migrate infrastructure to Kubernetes and modernize deployment practices.
• Improve observability and monitoring across the finance platform.
• Work with accountants, financial analysts, and operations teams to define requirements, design architectures, and deliver incremental solutions.
• Review code and design documents, mentor engineers, unblock teammates, and participate in a support rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience with Clojure or Python; Ruby and PL/SQL experience is valuable.
• Experience in finance or accounting, including PnL, reconciliation, general ledger, regulatory reporting, or cost basis.
• Strong system design skills, including architectural trade-offs, distributed systems, reliability, and operability.
• Solid knowledge of relational databases, including transactionality, indexing, performance tuning, and data modeling.
• Experience building and operating production systems with containers, CI/CD pipelines, and orchestration, plus a track record of mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Deep Python expertise in data pipelines, scheduling, or tooling.
• Experience with Clojure or other Lisp-family languages.
• Observability experience with structured logging, metrics, alerting, or anomaly detection.
• Familiarity with Oracle, Kafka, Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience reducing operational toil through automation and system design.
