Senior Software Development Engineer (Java/Python)

Location: Office in Chicago with work-from-home Fridays

Salary: $129,200–$174,173 per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, deploy, monitor, and maintain production software across the full software development lifecycle.
• Build quality software and scalable, highly available services for investment reporting and analytics.
• Contribute to Agile planning, product roadmaps, technical breakdowns, architectural decisions, and system documentation.
• Analyze and resolve systemic problems involving performance, scalability, dependencies, and adjacent services.
• Own major features or services through design, development, deployment, and maintenance while responding to customer issues.
• Mentor and train less experienced engineers and contribute technical leadership across teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience using Java, Python, or other industry-leading programming languages.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience with object-oriented or functional programming, SDLC and Agile practices, and production system monitoring.
• Experience with Machine Learning, cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and messaging systems such as Cloud Pub/Sub, Kafka, or SQS/SNS.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write in English.

Nice to have

• Experience building scalable backend services, microservices, polyglot storage solutions, messaging systems, and data processing pipelines.
• Experience building distributed software systems using big data and NoSQL technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, DynamoDB, HBase, Hive, Cassandra, or Vertica.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, software design documentation, presentations, and sequence diagrams.
