Staff Software Engineer (TypeScript/PlayStation)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; hybrid working policy

Salary: CAD 188,200–282,200 per year, plus potential bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Define the technical direction for the adaptive experiences SDK and translate the vision into production-ready architecture.
• Lead modernization of the PS5 Store runtime by migrating legacy rendering paths to schema-driven experiences rendered through Content SDK.
• Design platform-independent composition layers, TypeScript APIs, versioned schemas, content adapters, component models, data bindings, and renderer contracts.
• Build reusable experience primitives supporting responsive layouts, personalization, experimentation, telemetry, accessibility, localization, and platform-specific interactions.
• Establish backward compatibility, validation, feature flags, fallbacks, rollback, observability, and staged migration patterns.
• Partner across client, design system, merchandising, content, personalization, experimentation, and platform service teams while mentoring engineers and communicating architectural decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production client platforms, SDKs, frameworks, or shared libraries.
• Expert proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript and strong experience with React, React Native, or a comparable component-based client framework.
• Strong software architecture and API design skills, including modularity, dependency management, versioning, backward compatibility, and incremental migration.
• Experience building data-driven or server-driven user interfaces, reusable component systems, or runtime composition frameworks.
• Experience designing for multiple client environments and improving client performance and reliability through profiling, telemetry, automated testing, and observability.

Nice to have

• Console development, living-room interfaces, focus-based navigation, or performance-constrained native client experience.
• Schema-backed declarative UI, JSON Schema, data binding, hydration, or client-side rendering engine experience.
• Experience with personalization, experimentation, content management, merchandising, or design systems.
• Platform adapter or renderer development for iOS, Android, web, or other native environments.
• Experience applying generative AI or agentic workflows with evaluation, governance, and deterministic output constraints.
