Field Technician II - Sacramento, CA (Telecommunications)

Location: Based out of the Rancho Cordova, California office and working in the field; candidates should reside within 1.5 hours of the Sacramento metro area. The role includes on-call rotations, after-hours and extended shifts, overnight travel, indoor and outdoor work, heights, confined spaces, and changing weather conditions.

Salary: $21.50–$33.00 USD per hour, with shift differential pay available for eligible evening and overnight shifts.

What you will do

• Install, test, commission, decommission, troubleshoot, and maintain SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, Ethernet, and related transport equipment.
• Perform optical, Ethernet, BER, circuit, SONET, and power testing using OTDRs, optical power meters, multimeters, fiber identifiers, and fiber scopes.
• Support optical transmission systems, DC power, low- and high-voltage electrical systems, critical infrastructure, and ISP/OSP fiber operations.
• Conduct site surveys and field inspections covering building entrances, equipment spaces, outdoor cabinets, buried cable, and construction areas.
• Prepare field documentation, audits, closeout packages, maintenance records, and power reports while escalating potential network issues.
• Communicate with customers, contractors, management, and cross-functional teams; support less experienced technicians and follow vehicle and safety procedures.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, fiber optic systems, transport equipment, critical infrastructure, and ISP/OSP environments.
• At least two years of experience in fiber optic installation, telecommunications, network infrastructure, or a related technical field.
• Experience with basic fiber and telecommunications testing equipment; high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work in varied field environments and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Valid state-issued driver's license and eligibility to operate a company vehicle, with no more than two moving violations in the past three years.
• Compliance with company safety, fleet, background check, and identification requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with OTDR, DC power, RFC2544, RFC6349/Truespeed, iPerf, Y.1564, and 1G/10G/100G/400G circuit testing.
• Familiarity with Ciena, Nokia, Infinera, Juniper, and Cisco equipment.
