Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, Illinois — Hybrid

Base salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year. Discretionary performance bonus: 10–12% of base salary.

What you will do

• Own Linux performance in production, including CPU scheduling, NUMA placement, memory, filesystems, disk I/O, and network stack tuning.
• Lead incident troubleshooting using hypothesis-driven investigation, write postmortems, and drive follow-up improvements.
• Build and maintain reviewed, tested, version-controlled configuration management code with Salt, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Build, deploy, and operate containerized workloads on Kubernetes or Nomad, including scheduling, resource limits, health checks, and failure recovery.
• Automate operational work with Bash and Python and operate DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Nginx, HAProxy, Redis, RabbitMQ, and virtualization platforms.
• Maintain Vault secrets management, Elastic Stack logging, Nagios/CheckMK/Icinga alerting, Git workflows, and infrastructure change reviews.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in Linux systems, infrastructure, or SRE roles.
• Expert Linux knowledge covering performance analysis, processes and signals, systemd, cgroups, namespaces, filesystems, memory exhaustion, and file descriptors.
• Production-scale configuration management experience with Salt, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet, plus production Kubernetes or Nomad experience.
• Strong Bash and working Python skills, with solid networking fundamentals across VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, TCP, and TLS.
• Experience with Nginx or HAProxy, at least one of VMware, Xen, or KVM, and daily Git-based peer review.
• Excellent written communication for runbooks, design proposals, and incident reports, plus the ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly.

Nice to have

• Primary production ownership of Redis or RabbitMQ.
• Vault administration, including policies, authentication methods, and rotation at scale.
• Elastic Stack operations at volume, including index lifecycle, mappings, and cluster tuning.
• Experience in regulated environments, colocation, bare-metal operations, hardware lifecycle, or capacity planning.
