TL;DR
Electrical Reliability Engineer (EV Charging): Inspecting, commissioning, and troubleshooting the electrical infrastructure powering electric vehicle depots with an accent on medium- and low-voltage distribution, power quality, grounding, and serviceability. Focus on identifying single points of failure, supporting field technicians, and improving reliability across chargers, BESS, solar canopies, and vehicle-to-grid integrations.

Location: Boston, MA, United States; remote workplace with substantial on-site field work at vehicle depots

Salary: $125,000–$140,000 per year, plus performance-based bonus

Company

Provides Electrification-as-a-Service for school districts, municipalities, and fleet operators, supporting the transition to electric fleets and operating electric school bus infrastructure.

What you will do

  • Inspect newly constructed and energized vehicle depots, support commissioning, and verify that electrical infrastructure is safe, serviceable, and ready for operation.
  • Validate voltage stability, power quality, phase balancing, grounding, and energy performance across depot infrastructure.
  • Assess as-built construction quality, equipment access, maintainability, redundancy, and single points of failure across the depot portfolio.
  • Troubleshoot upstream electrical infrastructure and provide remote and on-site escalation support to field technicians and reliability managers.
  • Develop technician training, infrastructure standards, inspection checklists, commissioning procedures, and operational documentation.
  • Partner with construction engineering, energy, procurement, and charger reliability teams to improve component selection, serviceability, spare-parts strategy, and long-term site reliability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of electrical, power, or infrastructure engineering experience with substantial field work; EV charging, utilities, energy, or fleet depot experience is preferred.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or directly supporting field technicians in person and remotely.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA electrical safety requirements, NFPA 70E, and arc flash principles.
  • Strong knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution, including switchgear, transformers, conductors, grounding, and protection.
  • Experience with AC and DC fast-charging systems, metering, surge protection, temporary generation, BESS, solar, DERs, and V2G.
  • Ability to diagnose systemic failures across multiple sites and drive cross-functional resolution; an electrical engineering degree is preferred, while a PE is not required.

Culture & Benefits

  • Supportive, collaborative, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • 401(k) program with company match.
  • Performance-based bonus program.
