Senior Counsel (E-commerce)

Location: Chicago, IL; hybrid work with travel to the office 4+ times per month

Salary: $150,000–$185,000 USD per year, plus bonus and benefits

What you will do

• Advise on marketplace legal issues, including fraud prevention, payments regulation, consumer protection, and marketplace tax compliance.
• Support product development, new initiatives, and operational processes by identifying risks and operationalizing legal requirements.
• Build and scale legal operations infrastructure, including contract lifecycle management, playbooks, templates, workflow automation, and documented workflows.
• Identify emerging legal and regulatory issues affecting online marketplaces and translate them into practical business guidance.
• Draft and negotiate artist, brand, technology, vendor, licensing, and other commercial agreements.
• Collaborate with and manage outside counsel as needed.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of legal experience, including in-house experience.
• Experience with commercial contracting and drafting and negotiating artist partnerships, SaaS or technology, vendor, and licensing agreements.
• Working knowledge of privacy laws and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to advise cross-functional teams on product development, operational processes, and regulatory matters in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to create scalable policies, templates, workflows, and legal processes while managing strategic and day-to-day priorities.
• Fluent use of AI and legal technology tools, with strong communication and cross-functional influencing skills.
