Fleet Electrical Engineer (Staff, Senior or Principal)

Location: Amarillo, Texas, United States; requires 35% travel from the assigned office to Xcel plants in the surrounding vicinity.

Salary: $81,000–$156,600 per year, depending on level and experience.

What you will do

• Lead complex engineering projects covering research, design, equipment specification and selection, installation, start-up, commissioning, and evaluation.
• Develop procedures, codes, standards, and technical documentation for complex electrical engineering challenges.
• Provide technical leadership and serve as a subject matter expert for electrical generation, transmission, and grid components.
• Advise management and customers on advanced technical studies and applications.
• Manage bid and evaluation processes, including technical proposal reviews and equipment selection recommendations.
• Coordinate engineers, technicians, craft personnel, and other professionals while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; electrical engineering is preferred for senior and principal levels.
• Relevant experience based on level: 2+ years for Staff, 5+ years with EIT/FE or 7+ years without EIT/FE for Senior, and 9+ years with PE or 15+ years without PE for Principal.
• Hands-on knowledge of electrical generation, transmission, grid components, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of electrical design, arc flash industry standards, and NERC regulatory requirements.
• Experience with generators, transformers, breakers, protective relays, switchyard components, and motors.
• Ability to travel approximately 35% to nearby Xcel plants.

Nice to have

• EIT/FE certification for the Staff level.
• PE registration for the Senior level, depending on business need.
