Focus on responding to urgent behavioral health situations, coordinating with installation points of contact, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting children in military installation and school settings.

Location: Columbia, South Carolina, Fort Jackson; candidates must be local or willing to become local to Fort Jackson. Work takes place in DoDEA and community schools, youth programs, military installations, and other assigned locations.

Salary: $59,922–$100,280 per year, depending on location, skills, experience, education, and other permitted factors.

What you will do

  • Provide short-term, solution-focused, non-medical counseling to children and youth of military service members.
  • Conduct assessments, brief counseling, action planning, referrals, follow-up, and consultations with parents, school personnel, and installation leadership.
  • Support DoDEA and community school staff, youth programs, and summer camps through guidance, training, and health and wellness presentations.
  • Maintain confidential and anonymous activity records through smartphone or web applications.
  • Build relationships with community resources and installation points of contact while following line-of-sight and DoD protocols.
  • Respond to critical incidents and urgent requests, participate in supervision and training, and support quality improvement and pilot activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field, behavioral health, or social work.
  • Current unrestricted independent counseling license from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, a U.S. territory, or commonwealth.
  • At least two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Experience with children and youth and a specialty in child and adolescent development or psychology; school assignments require previous school-setting experience.
  • U.S. citizenship, fluent English, and the ability to work locally at Fort Jackson are required.
  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor military installation conditions, use required technology, maintain a valid U.S. state driver’s license, and pass CNACI, IRC, criminal history, and FBI fingerprint checks.
