Propulsion Engineer - Mechanical Design (Aerospace) (Propulsion Systems/Mechanical Hardware): Designing and developing human-rated propulsion mechanical hardware for commercial space stations with an accent on structural analysis, mechanical design, manufacturing drawings, and hardware acceptance. Focus on coordinating propulsion and structures interfaces, leading trade studies, resolving build issues, and analyzing static, dynamic, vibration, and thermo-mechanical loads.
Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite
Salary: $137,760–$265,392 USD per year, depending on level and experience.

What you will do
- Own the design of propulsion mechanical hardware, including tubing assemblies, brackets, mounts, and secondary structures.
- Coordinate loads, interfaces, and design requirements between the Propulsion and Structures teams.
- Perform structural and mechanical analysis covering static and dynamic loads, vibration, thermo-mechanical effects, and other environments.
- Create mechanical designs, manufacturing drawings, test plans, and concepts of operations, and support hardware from design release through acceptance.
- Lead trade studies and manage interfaces with adjacent subsystems.
- Work with fabricators and technicians to improve designs, mature processes, and resolve build issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent experience.
- At least 4 years of experience with CAD and FEA software.
- At least 4 years of experience designing and developing mechanical components or systems.
- Experience with propulsion systems or working alongside a propulsion team is strongly preferred.
- Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export control requirements.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends during critical mission milestones.
Nice to have
- Structural design and analysis for high-performance vehicles or spacecraft.
- Failure analysis and root-cause investigation experience.
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience with NX, Teamcenter, Ansys, Femap/Nastran, Abaqus, and GD&T under ASME Y14.5.
- Familiarity with SMC-S-016 and NASA-STD-5001.
