Aerospace Engineer (UAS): Designing, assembling, modifying, and piloting unmanned aircraft systems as live targets for US Army directed-energy and kinetic weapon testing with an accent on flight operations, sensor and telemetry integration, and field testing. Focus on fabricating and troubleshooting UAS hardware and software, executing live-fire test events, and producing detailed technical documentation and reports.

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States; work is performed in office, laboratory, and outdoor field environments, with approximately 25% travel for extended assignments.

What you will do

  • Design, assemble, modify, maintain, and pilot Group 1–3 UAS platforms used as live targets.
  • Support directed-energy, high-energy laser, high-power microwave, and kinetic weapon live-fire testing.
  • Integrate sensors, tracking aids, telemetry, flight controllers, and related test hardware and software.
  • Perform pre-flight inspections, post-flight maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and hardware and software validation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers and technicians to plan, execute, and analyze test events.
  • Maintain flight and maintenance records, technical build documentation, test reports, and documented procedures.

Requirements

  • US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance are required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on technical maintenance or field service experience.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard operating systems and CAD applications, including SolidWorks or similar tools.
  • Experience with 3D printing and some programming experience in MATLAB, C#, C++, or Python.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds, work independently, adapt to changing customer requirements, and communicate effectively.

Nice to have

  • Active DoW Secret security clearance.
  • Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Experience with flight controllers, ground control software, and UAS flight operations.
  • Familiarity with military test ranges or directed-energy and kinetic weapon testing environments.
