Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Montreal, Canada, with required in-office Hub Days every Wednesday

What you will do

• Build and operate backend services with Node.js, TypeScript, Kafka, and MongoDB.
• Expand the member credit system and lead the reservation experience redesign for the member portal.
• Own reservation-based access systems that connect members to booked rooms and locations.
• Improve site performance and reliability for thousands of members.
• Ship across backend and frontend systems, including React, Next.js, and occasionally React Native and Expo.
• Design and build AI agents, agentic systems, MCP servers, production guardrails, and monitoring.

Requirements

• Track record of shipping and operating production backend services in Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience building event-driven systems, especially with Kafka.
• Hands-on experience designing and shipping AI agentic systems, such as agents, MCP servers, and production AI guardrails and monitoring.
• Production React experience and willingness to contribute across the stack, including mobile when needed.
• Experience with NoSQL data, particularly MongoDB, and the ability to drive ambiguous problems to practical solutions.
• Low-ego, direct, collaborative communication and comfort working on a small team.

• Next.js experience.
