Staff Product Engineer (TypeScript/Next.js)

Location: Remote within the United States; applications are accepted from AR, AZ, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, IL, IA, KS, MA, MD, MN, MO, MT, NC, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, and WV.

Salary: $220,000–$250,000 per year, plus bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Design and own mission-critical systems for wallets, ledgers, enrollment lifecycles, reimbursement reviews, and money and student-record flows.
• Set engineering direction, standards, and long-term strategy in partnership with the CTO.
• Lead system design, data modeling, code reviews, and technical decision-making across the fullstack monolith.
• Define reliability practices including SLIs, SLOs, monitoring, incident response, and blameless postmortems.
• Automate manual checks, reviews, reports, rollouts, data fixes, and documentation into reliable systems.
• Mentor engineers and represent engineering in product and leadership discussions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience, including ownership of outcomes at small or fast-growing companies.
• Deep experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node, and PostgreSQL, including schema design, transactions, locking, and query performance.
• Experience designing and operating complex production systems involving payments, ledgers, workflows, and integrations.
• Experience setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and communicating complex systems clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Experience handling sensitive data and real money, with awareness of FERPA, audits, traceability, and compliance responsibilities.
• Must reside in one of the listed US states.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven, asynchronous, workflow-heavy systems using Kafka, Temporal, or Inngest.
• Experience using AI to automate developer workflows while maintaining oversight and accountability.
• Experience in K–12 education or another regulated industry such as finance or healthcare.
