Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Fully remote anywhere in the US; in-person office hubs are available in Boston, New York, and Paris.

Salary: $150,000–$170,000 per year, plus equity, PTO, and other benefits.

What you will do

• Design and scale backend data infrastructure for the Datastore, including PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
• Lead the design and integration of services and components for data and event processing.
• Own pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots into the data warehouse.
• Translate requirements from product, scientific, clinical, platform, and application stakeholders into integrations, services, and scalable solutions.
• Draft RFCs, lead technical design discussions, and align teams on implementation decisions.
• Improve data integrity, operational robustness, documentation, tooling, and dashboards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 2 years with data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
• Strong SQL skills and production experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexes, query tuning, and query plans.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or an equivalent event-streaming and processing system.
• Proficiency in Julia or Python.
• Experience deploying and operating containerized services, with familiarity with Kubernetes and IaC tools such as Terraform or Helm.
• Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript, including Node.js; strong communication and the ability to work independently in remote environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with Julia.
• Experience with equivalent streaming technologies such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
