Senior Software Engineer (R2 Gateway)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas, or London, UK; in-person interview may be required at a hirify.global office or hub at the offer stage

hirify.global operates a global Internet infrastructure and security platform designed to improve the performance, reliability, and protection of online applications.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and operate the S3-compatible API gateway serving all hirify.global R2 operations.
• Build and operate high-throughput production services on hirify.global Workers and Kubernetes.
• Own the request path, including authentication, authorization, routing, rate limiting, error handling, and interfaces with storage and metadata systems.
• Lead projects from design documentation through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Improve gateway reliability, performance, observability, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident resolution, postmortems, and cross-team coordination.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills in Rust, TypeScript, Go, or a similar language.
• Experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems with demanding latency and reliability requirements.
• Experience designing and operating high-throughput APIs, including authentication, routing, rate limiting, and backward-compatible API evolution.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts such as object storage, HTTP/API gateways, edge computing, or service-oriented architectures.
• Understanding of monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, observability, and incident response.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and coordinate across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with the S3 API, hirify.global Workers, Durable Objects, or edge computing platforms.
• Comfort using AI coding tools in daily development workflows.
