Senior Backend Engineer (Rust)

What you will do

• Contribute to xet-core, an open-source project written in Rust that powers the Hugging Face Hub client.
• Design, build, and operate high-performance features for the Xet Storage backend.
• Work across the infrastructure stack to ensure scalability for over 200PB of ML and AI assets.
• Collaborate in a high-trust, async, and fully remote environment.
• Leverage modern AI tools to accelerate development and system operations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building and scaling distributed systems, storage, or networking infrastructure.
• Proficiency in a low-level systems language, with Rust strongly preferred.
• Proven track record of working independently in a high-trust, low-process environment.
• Comfort operating in a fast-moving, async, and fully remote setting.
• Passion for building simple, robust, and scalable systems.

Nice to have

• Experience designing efficient, high-performance, fault-tolerant data storage and retrieval systems.
• Experience operating production systems including monitoring, alerting, and distributed debugging.
• Familiarity with git internals, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes), databases, or networking.
