Principal Enterprise Architect - Tooling (AI)

Location: Minneapolis, MN, United States

Salary: $140,000–$165,000 annually, plus eligibility for commission or an annual performance incentive plan.

What you will do

• Define enterprise architectures, business systems solutions, architecture principles, guardrails, and reference implementations.
• Implement and stabilize platform engineering, including toolchain automation, developer experience tooling, and software delivery platforms.
• Own the delivery toolchain covering source control, issue tracking, artifact management, static analysis, test infrastructure, licenses, upgrades, migrations, and tool consolidation.
• Define supported golden paths from code commit to production and govern architecture artifacts such as C4 models, API specifications, and architecture decision records.
• Implement AI-enabled tools for design, code generation, testing, and documentation with evaluation, human review, data-handling, and production governance controls.
• Partner with product, business, security, risk, and compliance leaders; mentor architects and senior engineers; and communicate technical trade-offs and risks to executives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, or platform engineering, including architecture experience with distributed, high-availability systems.
• Experience owning enterprise CI/CD platforms, pipeline-as-code, reusable templates, RBAC, secrets management, and multi-team governance.
• Experience with API and integration architecture, including REST, asynchronous messaging, event-driven patterns, and API lifecycle governance.
• Experience with AWS, cloud-native architecture, and Kubernetes in production.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, merchant services, or regulated transaction-processing environments.
• Hands-on experience with Harness, GitLab, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Argo, Spinnaker, or Jenkins at scale, including Harness CI/CD, STO, SEI, or CCM modules.
• Security scanning and policy gates in delivery pipelines; policy as code with OPA/Rego or comparable tools.
• Cloud cost management or FinOps ownership, including showback or chargeback.
• Applied generative AI or agentic development patterns, large-scale API ecosystems, PCI DSS-aligned controls, IAM, fraud or risk integrations, and .NET, Java, Go, or Node.
