TL;DR
CNC Mill-Turn Machinist (aerospace and automotive manufacturing): Developing and executing precision CNC turning and milling processes for high-performance components with an accent on multi-axis machining, GD&T, tooling, fixturing, and production readiness. Focus on solving machining issues such as chatter, tool wear, thermal distortion, and tolerance stack-up while improving cycle time, repeatability, and quality.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Onsite shop-floor role with a 3–4 x 11 rotating schedule and alternating Wednesdays. Available shifts are Sun–Wed or Wed–Sat, 5:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Company

Divergent develops integrated engineering and manufacturing solutions for advanced automotive, aerospace, defense, and next-generation industrial systems.

What you will do

  • Set up, operate, and optimize CNC turning centers, mill-turn machines, multi-axis lathes, and 3-axis, 3+2, and 5-axis mills.
  • Own machining processes from first article and prove-out through stable production, ensuring dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and performance requirements.
  • Develop tooling, workholding, fixturing, programming, sequencing, and repeatable setup strategies.
  • Troubleshoot chatter, tool wear, thermal distortion, tolerance stack-up, and machine limitations while reducing cycle time, scrap, and rework.
  • Partner with design and manufacturing engineering on Design for Manufacturability and complex turned or rotational features.
  • Create setup sheets, work instructions, and process standards; support inspection, root cause analysis, corrective actions, mentoring, and EHS compliance.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience operating CNC turning centers, including 2-axis, live tooling, mill-turn, or multi-axis lathes, plus cross-functional experience with milling and grinding.
  • Proficiency with Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain controllers and advanced understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience machining aluminum, steel, titanium, and nickel-based alloys such as Inconel.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced setups, dynamic work offsets, multi-operation setups, and taking parts from first article through production.
  • Ability to create clear machining documentation and mentor or lead machinists on the shop floor.
  • Must be lawfully able to access information and technology subject to United States export controls and eligible to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Experience with large-format or gantry-style machining systems, additive manufacturing or hybrid workflows, and manual machining.
  • Experience in high-rate production or rapid-development environments.
  • CAD/CAM experience, preferably NX CAM, plus strong G-code knowledge.
  • Experience writing probing routines for on-machine part inspection.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fast-paced, high-mix production environment with close collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality, logistics, and program teams.
  • Culture focused on proactive communication, data-driven decisions, craftsmanship, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Competitive compensation including equity and discretionary performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, company holidays, year-end shutdown, and paid parental leave.
  • HMO and Premium PPO health plans, life insurance, disability coverage, and learning and development reimbursement.
