Director of Legal (Healthcare)

Location: Hybrid role based in New York City, with work in the Manhattan office 3–5 days per week

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Build, manage, and scale the healthcare compliance program across clinic locations.
• Advise on HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, CPOM, digital health, licensing, accreditation, and medical board requirements.
• Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts, clinical vendor agreements, leases, software licenses, and partnerships.
• Manage provider credentialing, state licensing, and scope-of-practice protocols.
• Partner with executive leadership, clinical operations, product, IT, and security teams on regulatory risks and market expansion.
• Establish privacy, security, audit, risk assessment, training, breach notification, and patient data protection frameworks, including HIPAA and SOC 2 Type II controls.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active bar admission in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 7+ years of legal practice with significant healthcare compliance, regulatory, or healthcare transaction experience.
• Deep knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH, the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, CPOM, and state medical licensing requirements.
• Generalist legal experience across contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property, and employment risk management.
• Ability to translate complex regulations into practical guidance for executive leadership and manage cross-functional initiatives independently.
• Experience managing outside counsel, regulatory vendors, and advisory budgets.

• 9+ years of relevant healthcare legal experience.
• Experience combining law firm and in-house work at a high-growth healthcare startup or digital health company.
• Experience building healthcare compliance programs and legal operations from the ground up in a clinical or health-tech environment.
