Translational AI Engineer (Generative AI)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid role requiring onsite work an average of 2.5 days per week and residence within commuting distance.

Annual base salary: $139,100–$231,900, plus a 17.5% bonus target and eligibility for a share-based long-term incentive program.

What you will do

• Design and build production-quality AI/ML systems for recurring scientific and clinical workflows, including generative AI, agentic systems, predictive models, foundation models, hybrid RAG, and fine-tuned architectures.
• Evaluate and harden AI-assisted prototypes by identifying technical and scientific failure modes before wider deployment.
• Build the data platform, ETL pipelines, databases, integration layers, cloud infrastructure, containerization, and CI/CD foundations supporting internal AI tools.
• Promote tools from alpha to beta, define production-readiness criteria, and create evaluation harnesses using scientific and clinical benchmarks.
• Assess commercial AI/ML and GenAI tools against internal builds, considering capability, cost, security, scientific fit, and workflow readiness.
• Develop SOPs, reference architectures, hardened primitives, and benchmark harnesses while collaborating with computational biologists, immunologists, biologists, and clinicians.

Requirements

• PhD with 1+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 5+ years of software or ML engineering experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience shipping AI/ML systems for scientific applications.
• Hands-on experience building AI/ML systems beyond prompt wrapping and evaluating, debugging, and hardening AI-assisted codebases.
• Strong Python engineering skills and experience with modern AI/ML tools, model APIs, prompt engineering, hybrid RAG, fine-tuning, predictive modeling, and evaluation tooling.
• In-depth database and ETL experience, plus hands-on cloud infrastructure and deployment experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, containerization, and CI/CD.
• Working literacy in immunology, biology, translational research, or clinical workflows, with experience building evaluation harnesses and performing error analysis.
• Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States. U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with TypeScript and React for internal dashboards and visual analytics.
• Experience in immunology, inflammation, pharma or biotech R&D, or multi-omics data such as RNA-seq, proteomics, GWAS, spatial transcriptomics, or single-cell data.
• Familiarity with biological foundation models such as scGPT, Geneformer, ESM, or AlphaFold.
• Production enterprise software experience involving security, compliance, auditability, and uptime requirements.
• Strong open-source or publication record in applied ML systems, evaluation methodology, or computational immunology.
