TL;DR
Build & Test Technician (Nuclear): Assembling, integrating, and testing mechanical, electrical, and fluid subsystems for factory-fabricated nuclear microreactors with an accent on wiring harnesses, instrumentation, test stands, and safety-critical hardware. Focus on troubleshooting component-level faults, capturing test data, and validating reactor subsystems against specifications.

Location: Full-time on-site in Austin, Texas, United States. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. and may be subject to export-control and nuclear regulatory requirements.

What you will do

  • Assemble mechanical, electrical, and fluid subsystems from drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Fabricate and route wiring harnesses, terminate connectors, and perform soldering and crimping to IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
  • Install and integrate sensors, instrumentation, actuators, and control hardware on test articles and reactor subsystems.
  • Set up and operate test stands, including plumbing, electrical connections, data acquisition, and instrumentation calibration.
  • Execute test procedures, capture data, and document results, anomalies, and as-built configurations.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults to the component level and improve assembly processes with engineering teams.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant hands-on build and test experience, or equivalent trade or military experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification, associate degree, or military technical training is preferred.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, precision measurement equipment, schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, GD&T, and assembly instructions.
  • Ability to build harnesses, terminate connectors, solder, crimp, and troubleshoot circuits with a multimeter.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work while bending, kneeling, at heights, or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site or nuclear facility access clearances and work safely around high-voltage and pressurized systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic or hydraulic plumbing, fittings, and leak checking.
  • Technical certificate, associate degree, or military technical training.
