Principal Software Engineer (C / Networking / Dataplane) (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, California, USA; three days per week in the office

Base salary: $185,500–$265,000 USD annually, excluding bonus, equity, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and implement datapath features for load balancing, firewall rules, and L7 protocols.
• Build high-performance systems using C programming, data structures, and algorithms.
• Drive moderately complex engineering projects from concept through deployment with full ownership.
• Apply expertise in DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, and SSL/TLS networking protocols and services.
• Optimize networking and security applications on Unix and Linux operating systems.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience building large-scale commercial networking and security applications.
• Proficiency in C or C++ and strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Professional experience with Linux, Unix, or similar operating systems.
• Active exploration and practical use of AI tools to improve workflows and problem-solving.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted software development tools and workflows.
• Advanced knowledge of DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, and SSL/TLS.
