TL;DR
Technical Business Analyst I (Alternative Investments Operations) (Financial Services/Workflow Automation): Improving end-to-end investment operations for private equity, private debt, and alternatives through process redesign, workflow automation, and measurable operational outcomes with an accent on BPMN-style process mapping, requirements engineering, data integrations, and operational controls. Focus on defining future-state workflows, coordinating UAT and release activities, managing exceptions and business rules, and measuring KPIs such as cycle time, rework, SLA adherence, and automation rates.

Location: New York City; hybrid with a minimum of two days per week in the office. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Salary: $90,000–$105,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus and eligible benefits.

What you will do

  • Assess current-state processes, pain points, controls, and success metrics across the alternative investment lifecycle.
  • Map and optimize front-, middle-, and back-office workflows using swim lanes and BPMN-style documentation.
  • Define automation, standardization, exception-management, straight-through-processing, and future-state operating models.
  • Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, and workflow rules.
  • Partner with Appian and other platform teams on integrations, APIs, events, file-based workflows, SLAs, routing, and operational controls.
  • Drive workshops, UAT, defect triage, training, cutover, hypercare, executive reporting, and post-implementation KPI tracking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, operations management, MIS, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, or similar role in financial services.
  • Experience delivering process improvement or workflow automation from requirements through release in a complex, controlled environment.
  • Understanding of investment operations, including cash management, lifecycle events, reconciliations, controls, and reporting.
  • Experience with process-mapping tools such as Visio, Miro, or Lucidchart, and structured business analysis techniques.
  • Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder management, Excel, and PowerPoint skills; technical collaboration on data and integrations is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with private equity, private debt, real assets, hedge funds, fund administrators, custodians, or vendors.
  • Advanced degree or certifications such as Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or CBAP.
  • Working knowledge of SQL or BI tools.
