TL;DR
Senior Controls Engineer (PLC): Developing and implementing PLC projects and supporting automated manufacturing equipment with an accent on validation, regulatory compliance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Focus on designing and starting up new equipment, solving control and process issues, and coordinating multidisciplinary projects in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Location: Marion, North Carolina, United States; onsite role. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Salary: $96,000–$132,000 annually, with potential eligibility for discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement PLC projects and solutions for manufacturing equipment and assigned engineering projects.
  • Design, install, start up, test, troubleshoot, and optimize new and existing equipment and systems.
  • Execute validation activities, testing, engineering studies, data analysis, protocols, and operating-instruction revisions.
  • Support manufacturing regulatory compliance, NCR/CAPA investigations, equipment change controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support and training to production and service teams, acting as a subject-matter expert when needed.
  • Coordinate projects, capital operating budgets, and deliverables with internal and external multifunctional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred.
  • At least 3 years of PLC experience, including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500, CompactLogix, and safety PLCs.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley HMI, TCP/IP, RS-232, Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Fieldbus, and HSSB communications.
  • Hands-on electrical diagnostics, Category 3 safety systems, EPLAN P8, AutoCAD, and the ability to read and draw electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of validation protocols, Lean Manufacturing, project management, drives, motion control, encoders, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience with Fanuc or Yaskawa robotics, Cognex or Keyence vision systems, and servo control systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a regulated industry.
  • Programming experience with C#, C++, VB, or SQL Server.
