TL;DR
Research Technician II (Nutritional Immunology and Molecular Assays): Supporting team-based research into nutritional immunology and metabolic processes through small-animal handling, immune function assays, molecular techniques, and metabolite analysis with an accent on precise benchwork, biosample collection, and laboratory compliance. Focus on conducting flow cytometry, PCR, HPLC, or mass spectrometry analyses, maintaining BSL-2 laboratory operations, and supporting regulatory documentation and personnel training.

Location: College Station, Texas, United States; onsite

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Research Compliance Office at the Texas A&M University System, with the role based at Texas A&M AgriLife Research in the Nutrition department.

What you will do

  • Handle and administer diets, antigens, and immune response modifiers to small animals; work with young swine after additional training and supervision.
  • Conduct molecular and immune function assays related to nutrient-regulated processes, independently and as part of a research team.
  • Perform precise benchwork, data analysis, cell culture, and molecular techniques using laboratory equipment for immune function, molecular, and metabolite analyses.
  • Support biosafety, chemical inventory, laboratory item receipt, safety activities, accreditation, BSL-2 status, and related permits.
  • Help write standard operating procedures and regulatory compliance reports.
  • Assist with supervising and training laboratory personnel and students after specific training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of relevant laboratory-based research experience.
  • Ability to handle small animals, including feeding, weighing, immune treatments, and biosample collection.
  • Ability to conduct laboratory analysis independently, use laboratory equipment, and apply quantitative and computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively and reliably with others.
  • Employment is contingent on credential verification and completion of a criminal history investigation.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in biology, biochemistry, immunology, or genetics research laboratories.
  • Research experience with small-animal genotyping, blood collection, or dissections.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, PCR, HPLC, or mass spectrometry instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of gene and genomic database searching, analysis, and molecular biology methods such as promoter analysis.
