Police Communications Officer

Location: Commerce, Texas, United States; on-site staff position

East Texas A&M University, part of the Texas A&M University System, operates a university police department serving the campus community.

What you will do

• Monitor police radio traffic and answer emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Dispatch officers, maintain activity logs, enter records, and prepare required paperwork.
• Coordinate emergency services with external agencies and notify university personnel of campus incidents.
• Monitor campus alarms, security cameras, weather conditions, and tornado alerts.
• Support parking enforcement, vehicle towing, fleet reservations, building access monitoring, and after-hours maintenance notifications.
• Assist customers and complainants, maintain lost-and-found records, and gather information for police reports and legal proceedings.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months of experience as a police communications officer, law enforcement dispatcher, or in relevant administrative work involving calls, data entry, customer service, and information gathering.
• Strong communication and keyboarding skills, with the ability to multitask and work under stress.
• Ability to understand the technical aspects of communications equipment and work cooperatively with others.
• Successful completion of state-mandated certification classes is required after hiring.
• Employment is subject to a criminal history investigation and CJI-related disqualifying conviction criteria.
