Director Embedded Systems

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid schedule with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 CAD, plus variable compensation including short-term and long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Lead and scale software engineering teams working across low-level embedded systems, embedded Linux, RTOS, and on-device applications.
• Develop and improve end-to-end processes for planning, building, validating, and shipping software.
• Guide CI/CD pipelines, validation frameworks, and automated test development.
• Collaborate with electrical, cloud backend, mobile, security, manufacturing, external partners, and customers throughout the product lifecycle.
• Build organizational depth by developing engineering leaders and fostering innovation, inclusion, transparency, and shared ownership.
• Advance software technology strategies, including safe use of AI-assisted tools for code generation, quality improvement, and defect reduction.

Requirements

• 10+ years of embedded and software engineering experience, including hardware-integrated products, software development processes, and automated test frameworks.
• 8+ years of engineering people leadership experience with a record of developing leaders and maintaining high code quality.
• Deep expertise in embedded systems, RTOS, embedded Linux, C/C++, and associated toolchains.
• Exceptional communication skills for influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Successful completion of a background check.
