Drug Authorization Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Brookline, Massachusetts, United States; remote work with occasional onsite presence.

Salary: $45,200–$48,600 per year.

What you will do

• Manage referral and drug authorization requests through daily work queues and document activities in EPIC.
• Apply payer coverage policies and guidelines to injectable drug treatment plans.
• Coordinate clinical information and authorization requests with physicians, primary care practices, specialists, consultants, and payers.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, resolve invalid coverage information, and escalate cases to financial counselors when needed.
• Contact patients by telephone about referral requests and communicate with payers by phone or through websites.
• Maintain accurate documentation while following confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of insurance plans and medical registration or billing systems.
• Basic knowledge of EPIC or another hospital information system.
• Written and verbal communication, customer service, judgment, collaboration, and prioritization skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to protect sensitive patient information.
• No prior experience is required.

Nice to have

• One year of customer service or hospital/physician office registration experience.
• Bachelor’s degree.
