TL;DR
Patient Access Liaison - Rare Disease - Central (Rare Disease): Supporting patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and sites of care in navigating insurance coverage, prior authorization, reimbursement, and patient assistance pathways for infused and specialty therapies with an accent on rare disease access, denied claims, and compliance. Focus on resolving complex reimbursement barriers, educating providers and patients, and coordinating access support across field and internal teams.

Location: US - Illinois - Chicago. Field-based role with phone, virtual, and in-person patient and provider engagement and travel up to 50%, including occasional overnight and weekend commitments.

Annual base salary: $158,394–$185,578 for Level 5 or $164,276–$222,256 for Level 6, plus bonus or sales-based incentive eligibility, stock-based incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Support patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, physician offices, and infusion centers with insurance benefits, prior authorization, reimbursement, and coverage pathways.
  • Identify and resolve access barriers, including coverage questions, denied claims, appeals, and reimbursement issues before and after infusion.
  • Educate patients and providers on coding, billing, co-pay assistance, foundations, free drug programs, and patient support resources.
  • Build patient and caregiver relationships and secure written or electronic HIPAA authorization within the assigned geography.
  • Collaborate with Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Case Management, Site of Care, and external partners.
  • Document interactions accurately, escalate systemic issues, and report adverse events and product complaints through established processes.

Requirements

  • Level 5: doctorate, or a master's degree with 2 years, bachelor's degree with 4 years, associate's degree with 8 years, or high school diploma/GED with 10 years of patient services and/or access and reimbursement experience.
  • Level 6: doctorate with 2 years, master's degree with 4 years, or bachelor's degree with 6 years of patient services and/or access and reimbursement experience.
  • Knowledge of access and reimbursement, prior authorization, healthcare reimbursement systems, coding and billing, patient support programs, HIPAA, FDA, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage complex patient situations, respond rapidly to urgent access needs, and work effectively in matrix field environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM, AI, and relevant systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting buy-and-bill or infused pharmaceutical therapies.
  • Rare disease or orphan drug experience.
  • Clinical background in nursing or allied health.
  • Experience working in cross-functional field teams.
