Engineering Technician (Automotive)

Location: Detroit, MI, US; onsite. Applicants must be able to work in or relocate to Detroit. Relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $65,000–$105,000 per year.

What you will do

• Operate multiple performance and durability engine test cells and stands at peak efficiency.
• Set up medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines, components, and exhaust after-treatment systems.
• Prepare mechanical engine assembly and disassembly setups.
• Identify and troubleshoot test cell and stand problems.
• Perform necessary fabrication and welding work.
• Produce test data that meets engineering customer expectations.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical skills and experience using hand tools.
• Understanding of internal combustion engine operation and electrical circuit fundamentals.
• Ability to measure or calculate voltage, current, and resistance using a digital multimeter.
• Familiarity with testing instrumentation and sensors, including emissions systems, thermocouples, transducers, and accelerometers.
• Experience with axle assembly and repair, including backlash, endplay, pattern checks, and verification.
• Organizational, multitasking, autonomous work, computer, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with hybrid, BEV, fuel-cell, eMotor, or high-voltage systems.
• ASE or state mechanic certification, or equivalent OEM service training.
• Engine testing and mechanical engine assembly/disassembly experience.
• CDL Class A, NVH testing, PID loop controller, or engine/chassis dynamometer testing experience.
• Enrollment in an accredited technical associate or bachelor's degree program.
