Engineering Technician - Vehicle Test (Automotive)

Location: Detroit, Michigan, United States; onsite. Applicants must be able to work in or relocate to Detroit. Relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $65,000–$105,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support vehicle development and validation programs for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
• Build, modify, repair, and maintain prototype and production-intent vehicles.
• Conduct on-road, off-road, durability, performance, emissions, and customer evaluation testing.
• Install and troubleshoot instrumentation, sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, accelerometers, and data acquisition systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, powertrain, HVAC, exhaust, and driveline systems.
• Document test observations, investigate root causes with engineers, and ensure vehicles meet safety and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent technical experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, automotive repair knowledge, and experience with vehicle systems and diagnostic tools.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL with Passenger (P) and Tanker (N) endorsements, or complete company-sponsored CDL training.
• Ability to perform strenuous mechanical work and read mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of vehicle instrumentation, data acquisition, low-voltage electrical systems, wiring harnesses, and connectors.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available, and existing visa holders are not eligible.

Nice to have

• Current Class A CDL with Passenger and Tanker endorsements.
• Experience testing commercial vehicles, supporting prototype builds, or working with vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition.
• Knowledge of emissions, powertrain, durability, or performance testing.
• Fabrication, welding, custom vehicle modification, axle, driveline, suspension, or braking systems experience.
