TL;DR
Clinical Social Worker/LICSW/South Shore Hospital (Oncology): Providing biopsychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, and care coordination for oncology patients, families, and caregivers across diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care with an accent on evidence-based short-term interventions, serious illness conversations, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Focus on assessing suicide and behavioral health risks, coordinating psychosocial resources, facilitating support groups, and addressing complex psychosocial barriers to cancer care.

Location: South Shore Hospital, 101 Columbian St, South Weymouth, Massachusetts 02190. Hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week.

Salary: $90,200–$96,700 per year

What you will do

  • Provide biopsychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, individual, couples, family, and group counseling, and short-term bereavement therapy for oncology patients and caregivers.
  • Coordinate psychosocial services and connect patients and families with internal, community, and governmental resources throughout the cancer care continuum.
  • Assess and address complex psychosocial risks, including suicide risk, domestic violence, abuse and neglect, substance use, serious mental illness, disability, and family adjustment concerns.
  • Facilitate serious illness and goals-of-care conversations, palliative care and hospice transitions, support programs, and psychoeducational groups.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, nurses, palliative care, psychiatry, psychology, navigation staff, and other interdisciplinary partners during oncology rounds and weekly supportive oncology meetings.
  • Complete clinical documentation, participate in quality improvement, committees, education, supervision, program development, and psychosocial research.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
  • Current Massachusetts social work license required; LCSW or LICSW certification required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Clinical assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, behavioral health, and treatment skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, prioritization, analytical ability, computer literacy, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Ability to complete assessments including PHQ-9, GAD-7, the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale, and serious illness conversations.

Nice to have

  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills.
  • Experience in oncology social work, psychosocial research, teaching, or supervision.
