International Trade Compliance Specialist II

Location: Hybrid in Detroit, MI or Portland, OR, with 4 days per week in the office and 1 day remote. Applicants may work in or relocate to these locations; relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $78,000–$100,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Oversee trade program compliance activities across DTNA businesses and geographies.
• Support USMCA and other free trade agreement qualification, customs compliance, and import/export compliance activities.
• Determine trade program applicability, validate eligibility worksheets, and maintain supporting documentation and transaction records.
• Administer free trade certificates, supplier certifications, customer requests, and related system updates.
• Assist with compliance reviews, internal audits, post-entry audits, vendor management, and government agency inquiries.
• Research trade laws and regulations and develop compliance forms, tools, templates, and performance reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least two years of experience in trade compliance, customs compliance, import/export compliance, USMCA administration, FTAs, FTZs, customs brokerage, or related international trade functions.
• Comparable experience with DTNA or Detroit Diesel products, components, supplier relationships, purchasing processes, product structures, or bills of material may substitute year for year for trade compliance experience.
• Ability to deliver results in a matrixed environment and work with laws and regulations across different countries.
• Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available, and existing visa holders are not eligible.
• An attached resume is required; successful completion of a background check and potentially a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Nice to have

• Spanish fluency.
• Experience with USMCA, NAFTA, other free trade agreements, HTSUS classification, country-of-origin determinations, and import/export compliance programs.
• Experience with CBP regulations, customs audits, supplier certifications, customs brokers, or government agencies.
• Licensed Customs Broker designation.
• Strong analytical, technical, communication, change management, and process improvement skills.
