Manager Technical Engineering - Engine Lab (Internal Combustion Engines): Building and leading an advanced engine development laboratory supporting engine strategy, new product development, validation, certification, and lifecycle improvement with an accent on engine performance, durability, emissions, and safety testing. Focus on developing lab capabilities, leading technical and engineering teams, managing complex development programs, and delivering reliable data for cross-functional engine decisions.

What you will do

  • Build, lead, and continuously improve the Engine Development Laboratory organization.
  • Define lab strategies, capability roadmaps, capital plans, staffing plans, engineering standards, and standard work.
  • Oversee engine performance, durability, emissions, certification, validation, and abuse testing.
  • Ensure safe operation of engine test cells, fuel systems, emissions equipment, and laboratory facilities.
  • Partner with Engine Design, Controls, Compliance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Field Quality, and external suppliers on development and validation plans.
  • Manage budgets, capital investments, test partners, laboratory throughput, data quality, and development milestones while recruiting and developing technical talent.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of progressive engine or powertrain engineering experience.
  • At least 4 years of people leadership and laboratory or organization development management experience.
  • Deep technical understanding of internal combustion engine systems and development processes.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex development programs simultaneously.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • 15 years of engineering experience and experience leading technical teams in regulated environments, including EPA, CARB, or EU requirements.
  • Experience with gasoline, natural gas, propane, or alternative fuel engines.
  • Experience with engine dynamometers, emissions benches, data acquisition, controls systems, calibration, and certification processes.
  • Proven leadership in root cause analysis and failure investigations.
