Staff Engineer (Residential New Product Development)

Location: Kohler, Wisconsin, United States. Domestic travel is required as needed. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary: $113,000–$143,950 per year.

What you will do

• Lead product requirements development with Marketing Product Managers and translate requirements into functional specifications and design targets.
• Provide technical and design direction for residential automatic transfer switches and air-cooled and liquid-cooled generators.
• Develop cost estimates, support business cases, and track project spending and product costs with Accounting and Procurement.
• Guide validation testing and product evaluation to meet performance, reliability, and durability goals.
• Approve major purchased components such as alternators, controllers, inverters, batteries, and enclosures.
• Maintain project schedules, provide status updates, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on new consumer product development.
• Basic understanding of generators, large gaseous engines, and electrical and electronic systems.
• Demonstrated project management, technical leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel domestically as required.
• US work authorization without current or future sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with electromechanical systems.
• Coursework or experience related to internal combustion engines.
• Power generation or generator set experience.
