Instrument & Controls Engineer (Renewable Energy)

Location: Charlotte, NC or Portland, ME, United States; travel to vendor shops and project sites of up to 20% or more is required.

Salary: $97,400–$141,050 base salary per year, plus benefits and potential performance incentives.

What you will do

• Lead instrumentation and controls design and construction for renewable natural gas and landfill/digester gas-to-energy plants.
• Design control, network, and termination panels in AutoCAD, including layouts, wiring diagrams, terminal schedules, and engineering drawings.
• Develop and review control-system plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate instrumentation and controls integration with electrical, mechanical, civil, and process engineering teams.
• Oversee installation, testing, commissioning, site inspections, and technical support during construction.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, vendor FAT activities, I/O verification, and corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least five years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience focused on construction, design, and project management.
• Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and HMI systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is required for extensive drafting of instrumentation and controls drawings.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple projects, and solve technical problems.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing required.

Nice to have

• Experience with renewable natural gas or power generation projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
