TL;DR
Senior HTS Classification Specialist (Customs Compliance): Managing tariff classification and customs compliance activities for truck, bus, powertrain, electric, and autonomous vehicle products across the United States and Canada with an accent on product research, regulatory accuracy, and cross-border import processes. Focus on preparing customs ruling support, resolving classification discrepancies, maintaining PGA data, responding to CBP and CBSA inquiries, and implementing compliance improvements.

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States. Hybrid schedule: four days per week in the office and one day remote. Applicants may relocate to Portland, but relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $78,000–$100,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

  • Gather product information and maintain documentation supporting tariff classifications and customs ruling requests.
  • Provide tariff numbers and Participating Government Agency compliance data for import clearance across production, aftermarket, prototypes, chemicals, equipment, and other goods.
  • Support post-entry classification audits, broker communications, PGA database updates, and customs clearance activities.
  • Research and prepare responses to US CBP and Canadian CBSA inquiries, including CF28 and CF29 requests.
  • Resolve classification discrepancies with suppliers and provide classification and trade compliance training.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, support Global Trade Management system improvements, and help resolve customs process issues.

Requirements

  • BS/BA with three years of related experience, an associate degree with four years of related experience, or six years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Access.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available, and existing visa holders are not eligible.

Nice to have

  • Experience with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
  • Familiarity with 19 CFR, USMCA, Free Trade Agreements, or CTPAT.
