Assistant Structures Representative

Location: Construction project sites and/or field offices in Caltrans Districts 8 and 9, including San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and Mono Counties, California, United States.

What you will do

• Inspect highway, bridge, and structural construction to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and changes.
• Identify non-conforming materials or workmanship and coordinate corrective action, including removal and replacement where required.
• Perform construction surveying, alignment and grade calculations, and establish elevation control for structural elements.
• Review shop drawings, informational and action submittals, RFIs, change orders, contract quantities, estimates, and potential claim documents.
• Complete daily construction diaries, project records, monthly quantity estimates, pay estimates, and final documentation.
• Perform verification sampling and testing of construction materials using ASTM or California Test methods while coordinating with contractors and project personnel.

Requirements

• At least two years of post-secondary education in engineering or surveying, including trigonometry or higher-level algebra, drafting, computer science, and relevant physical science or surveying coursework.
• At least four years of experience inspecting structure construction for highways or major public works projects.
• Valid driver's license and valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
• Valid ASTM or California Test Methods certification for sampling and testing fresh Portland cement concrete.
• Knowledge and experience in construction surveying for establishing control lines and grades.
• Problem-solving, documentation, and verbal communication skills.
