API Systems Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid work in Vienna, Virginia, United States. Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Salary: $96,100–$123,200 annually.

What you will do

• Develop and update enterprise services and APIs using Java and JEE.
• Design and implement integration solutions for cloud-native applications across public, private, and hybrid clouds.
• Build APIs, microservices, platform proxies, and API Management integrations for B2B and B2C use cases.
• Collaborate with development teams, business units, analysts, and API specialists to deliver reusable enterprise services.
• Lead peer code reviews and contribute to SOA, API governance, standards, documentation, and architectural policies.
• Participate in on-call and deployment rotations, root-cause investigations, and technical support.

Requirements

• Expert hands-on experience with Java, JEE, Web Services, SOAP, RESTful APIs, JSON, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot microservices.
• Expert knowledge of Istio or service mesh, OpenAPI Specification or RAML, and managed Kubernetes runtimes such as Tanzu Kubernetes Grid.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud platform architecture and API security using OAuth, SAML, JWT, and OpenID Connect.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into functional architecture solutions and troubleshoot advanced technical problems.
• Advanced Agile knowledge, strong collaboration and communication skills, and experience working with stakeholders and vendors.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent training, education, and experience.

Nice to have

• Integration experience with Salesforce, Oracle HCM/PeopleSoft, or CRM/Dynamics.
• Certifications in Azure, Java, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Spring, or related technologies.
• Experience with Azure DevOps and banking or financial industry standards.
• Knowledge of Navy Federal’s functions, operations, and organizational objectives.
