Director of Manufacturing and Quality (Semiconductors)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; global travel of up to 30–40% to domestic facilities and international manufacturing sites is required.

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 per year in California.

What you will do

• Define and execute the global manufacturing strategy, optimizing domestic facilities and launching overseas extended factories.
• Scale complex hardware products from NPI and design-for-manufacturability reviews into high-volume production.
• Improve factory throughput and efficiency through line balancing, automation, layout design, and cycle-time reduction.
• Manage technical execution with Tier-1 contract manufacturers and ODM partners, coordinating operational SLAs with Supply Chain.
• Own and continuously improve the global QMS, including advanced quality planning, SPC, failure analysis, CAPA, and field-return processes.
• Build and lead an international team of manufacturing, test, and supplier quality engineers while reporting operational metrics to executive leadership.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in hardware manufacturing operations, NPI, and quality engineering within high-tech electronics, compute hardware, or complex electromechanical industries.
• Experience establishing and scaling overseas manufacturing facilities or extended factories, particularly in Taiwan, China, or Southeast Asia, and managing Tier-1 EMS/CM partners.
• Strong knowledge of electrical fabrication and testing, including SMT lines, PCBA testing, ICT/FCT fixtures, and thermal management.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes, including precision machining, die-casting, custom tooling, and injection molding.
• Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, SPC, 8D problem solving, FMEA, and Gauge R&R; Six Sigma Black Belt experience is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline; experience with PLM, ERP, and MES systems.

• Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent experience.
• MS in Engineering or an MBA.
